Improve Your Smile and Your Confidence with Invisalign from Trillium Dental

Do you wish you had the kind of straight, confident smile you see on the faces of those you admire? With Invisalign from Trillium Dental, you can.

As one of today’s most popular cosmetic and orthodontic services, Invisalign works by gradually bringing teeth into alignment using a series of clear aligners. As treatment progresses, you’ll wear each pair of aligners for about two weeks before moving on to the next set, with each set bringing you close to your goal.

But there are two even greater benefits that come with Invisalign.

The first is that Invisalign’s aligners are clear. Most people won’t even realize you’re wearing them. Already, that puts Invisalign clear braces in a field above traditional bracket-and-wire braces.

As a second major benefit, Invisalign’s aligners are also removable. That means that you can take them out to enjoy a night out with friends, a date with your partner, or even an important business meeting or presentation.

You can also take them out to brush and floss. With bracket-and-wire braces, food can become trapped, potentially resulting in tooth decay. But with Invisalign, you can give your smile the thorough cleansing it needs while bringing it closer and close to its ideal alignment.

Having a straighter smile has never been easier or more convenient.

Do you want to learn more about how Trillium Dental can help you achieve a straighter smile with Invisalign? Call one of our offices today. We serve patients from Ottawa, Nepean, Kanata, Stittsville, and Orleans.

Restored Functionality and Strength with Dental Implants

If you’ve had dentures for a while, you’ve probably noticed that your smile has undergone changes. Maybe your dentures don’t fit as well as they used to. They’ve become looser and harder to keep in place. Maybe you’ve even had to have them resized.

Why is this happening?

The answer has everything to do with what happened when you had natural teeth removed. In addition to losing your teeth you also lost the roots that held them in place. These roots had an important job to do. In addition to anchoring your teeth, they also kept your jawbone healthy and strong by stimulating the growth of new bone tissue. Without these roots, your jaw will begin to atrophy.

But with implant dentures from Trillium Dental, you can enjoy a smile with restored functionality and strength.

The first step in restoring your smile with implant dentures is confirming that you’re a candidate for dental implants. Once we’ve done this, we can begin the first stage of your implant procedure—placing your implants. Because dental implants are made from biocompatible titanium, your new implants will actually bond with your jaw over time, as the site of your placement heals. It’s this bond that will give your completed implant dentures a solid, natural foundation for the rest of your smile.

What Is Neuromuscular Dentistry?

If you’ve ever heard a dentist or another medical professional use the term neuromuscular dentistry, you may have wondered what exactly neuromuscular dentistry is.

Essentially, neuromuscular dentistry is concerned with treating problems like bruxism and TMJ-dysfunction. In both cases, patients may experience painful symptoms like frequent headaches, neck and facial pain, popping or cracking of the jaw, ringing ears, or numbness in the fingertips.

At Trillium Dental, our doctors can provide effective relief for painful symptoms through neuromuscular dentistry.

Treatment starts with identifying the patient’s ideal alignment. We do this by relaxing facial muscles with our TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator) unit, an experience which many patients enjoy as it also relieve painful symptoms. Once we’ve determined your ideal alignment, we can begin taking measurements for your custom made orthotic. An orthotic is a special mouthpiece that is made by our lab and corrects alignment, bringing long-term relief to symptoms.

Do you have trouble with either bruxism or TMJ-dysfunction? Don’t put off treatment any longer. Call one of our Trillium Dental offices today to schedule a consultation appointment. We serve patients from Ottawa, Nepean, Kanata, Stittsville, and Orleans.

You don’t have to live with painful symptoms any longer!

Three Principals That Shape Trillium Dental’s Patient-Centered Philosophy

At every single one of our Trillium Dental offices, three principals shape our patient-centered philosophy.

First, we want you to know everything you need to know about your smile in order to make an informed decision. That means thoroughly explaining treatment options and answering any questions or concerns you might have. We don’t want any patient to leave with unanswered questions on their mind.

Second, we believe in providing targeted care that uses the latest techniques and technology. That’s why you’ll find services like CEREC same-day crowns, sedation dentistry, laser gum therapy, digital radiography, and more. With these services, we’re able to deliver quicker, more precise, and more comfortable care to our patients.

Third, we believe in working with patients to create a long-term oral health plan, which includes information on what you can do at home to care for your smile. The more you know about what you can be doing on your own at home to help your smile, the more you can feel like a genuine participant in your smile’s healthy future.

We also recommend that patients see us every six months for a regular oral exam and cleaning. Working together, we can help you achieve optimal oral health.

Extra Protection for Your Smile with Dental Sealants

Some smiles need extra protection. That’s why, at Trillium Dental, we offer dental sealants as one of our general dentistry services. With dental sealants, it’s possible to give patients with grooved or hard-to-clean teeth extra protection against bacteria and decay.

What Are Dental Sealants?

Dental sealants are made from a special resin or plastic that’s applied to the chewing surfaces of teeth, whether along the sides or in the back, where patients—especially young patients—can have trouble adequately cleaning. Once applied to teeth, they add an extra layer protection, helping the patients smile remain strong and healthy. What’s more, a sealant can easily be applied during a regular visit with one of our doctors.

Who are Dental Sealants For?

Often, dental sealants are used with children to give them extra protection as they learn to brush and floss. But dental sealants can also be used with any patient who may need extra help protecting his or her teeth against decay.

If you’d like to find out more about how dental sealants can protect your smile from harmful bacteria, give one of our offices a call today. We’d be happy to answer any questions for you, in addition to scheduling an appointment for you. We have offices in Ottawa, Nepean, Kanata, Stittsville, and Orleans.

A Heart Health-Oral Health Reminder from Trillium Dental

With Valentine’s Day approaching, hearts are on a lot of people’s minds. But even if most of these hearts are decorative, now is still a good time to address the relationship between oral health and heart health.

As studies have shown, the health of your smile can have a significant impact on your overall health, including the health of your heart.

How is this possible?

As bacteria and plaque build up around the teeth and gums, pockets will eventually form around the base of the gumline. Once these pockets exist, they become a way for bacteria and plaque to reach other parts of the body via the bloodstream, including your heart.

So to ensure that your smile doesn’t contribute to health problems in the rest of your problem, we recommend visiting one of our Trillium Dental offices twice a year for regular checkups and cleanings.

Preventing gum disease doesn’t go hand-in-hand with heart disease prevention, but there is nevertheless a link between them.

If you have any questions at all about that link, don’t hesitate to call us and schedule an appointment with one of our offices. We’d be happy to answer any questions you might have.

Call us today. We serve patients from Ottawa, Nepean, Kanata, Stittsville, and Orleans.

Metal-Free Dentistry from Trillium Dental

If you’ve been told recently that you have a cavity, you’re going to need a filling. And to help patients with their filling needs, Trillium Dental uses metal-free dentistry.

What that means is that our fillings are made of porcelain instead of the mercury, zinc, tin, silver, and copper you’ll find in traditional amalgam fillings. And that’s great news for patients.

The Benefits of Porcelain and Composite Fillings

One of the major benefits of porcelain and composite fillings is that they actually support tooth’s natural structure, preserving its natural lifespan in the process and protecting it from bacteria.

But amalgam fillings, on the other hand, can contract and expand based on temperature, and can even change shape with the impact of chewing. This change in shape can expose a vulnerable tooth to bacteria and the chance for further decay.

But because porcelain and composite fillings bond so firmly to teeth, your oral health is assured.

The primary reason, though, that Trillium Dental offers metal-free dentistry is that amalgam fillings contain mercury, a toxic material. It’s generally been found that the levels of mercury in amalgams are safe, but for patients who may be pregnant, allergic to mercury, or have any number of other factors, it may still be best to avoid amalgam fillings.

And so that’s why Trillium Dental believes in metal-free dentistry. Amalgam fillings may or may not pose any threat to oral health, but we really don’t want to take that chance with patients.

Have You Been Told You Need a Filling?

If you’ve been told recently that you need a filling but your dentist only offers amalgam fillings, schedule an appointment with one of our offices to talk to us about porcelain and composite fillings. We have offices in Ottawa, Nepean, Kanata, Stittsville, Orleans, Kanata.

Trillium Dental Wants to Help You Give Your Smile a Fresh Start with Porcelain Veneers

January is symbolic of a fresh start. That’s why so many of us make resolutions around New Year’s Day—resolutions to eat better, exercise more, and take better care of our money.

But have you ever thought about giving your smile a fresh start?

If you’re embarrassed by teeth that are stained, cracked, chipped, or misaligned, Trillium Dental has a cosmetic solution that can help—porcelain veneers.

What Are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are thin disks of porcelain that go over the front of teeth to hide imperfections.  What’s more, they can be shaded to match surrounding teeth and are designed with your facial features as well as your skin, hair, and eye color in mind.

Here’s how the porcelain veneers process works.

When you come in, one of our cosmetic dentists will talk with you about exactly how you want your smile to look. Then, once we have an idea of how we’ll be helping you, we’ll take an impression of your teeth, which we’ll send to our lab. When your veneers have been finished, all that’s left for us to do is apply them to your teeth, giving your smile the fresh start you’ve dreamed of giving it.

Want to find out more about porcelain veneers? Our offices in Ottawa, Nepean, Kanata, Stittsville, and Orleans would be happy to help you. Call us today.

You can have a dazzling, confident new smile this January!

Holiday Tips from Trillium Dental

Very few times of the year are as filled with celebration as the Christmas season. Between now and the end of the year, there will be no shortage of holiday treats and Christmas parties. And then, of course, there’s the big day itself and the family get-togethers that go with it.

But if you’re like many others, you may be wondering how you can still enjoy the holiday season while still giving your smile the protection it needs. After all, holiday surprises are great, but not if that holiday surprise is a cavity or gum disease.

So as Christmas inches closer and holiday parties become more numerous, keep these tips in mind.

First, don’t forget about your regular brushing and flossing routine. And if you can, take extra precaution by brushing in between meals or snacks. If extra brushing isn’t possible, though, you can still keep a pack of xylitol gum with you. Chewing xylitol gum after meals helps promote a healthy pH level in the mouth and prevents bacteria and plaque from sticking to teeth.

Another tip to keep in mind is maintaining a healthy diet. Holiday treats filled with sugar fuel the production of acid, in turn fueling the growth of bacteria, but foods containing protein can actually curtail this. So, instead of giving up on your favorite holiday treats, find ways of balancing what you eat with something that you know will benefit your smile and your overall health. Finding a happy medium between indulging your sweet tooth and eating right is the surest way to enjoy your holiday while also protecting your smile.

Have any more questions about what you can do to preserve your smile this holiday season, or about one of our services? Call one of Trillium Dental’s Ontario offices today. We have locations in Ottawa, Nepean, Kanata, Stittsville, and Orleans.

And from all of us at Trillium Dental, we want to wish all our patients a happy, safe, and fun holiday season!
